Born in Ferryhill , Co. Durham , on 24 January , 1906. John Loftus joined South Shields from Willington . He once scored six goals in a reserve match but his main first team experience was in the relegation season . Nottingham Forest paid a welcome cheque for his services and he was a regular player there and later at Bristol City before bowing out of the League with two games for Gillingham .
John Leo Loftus died on 23 October 1992. He had lived in the village of Chilton whose Colliery team it will be recalled played South Shields in the FA Cup in 1926. E
