Image details

OCR In May 1992 , Chairman John Rundle and David Fall ( Secretary ) after about 18 months negotiations and hard work , finally broke through a lot of barriers and successfully concluded the buying of the Football Ground and Club House at Filtrona Park .
Then more hard work had to be put in to put right the vandalism that had been perpetrated while the buildings were empty , and finally on 9th May , 1992 , the Mariners Club was ready to receive it's first customers . Then more work had to be put in on the ground to receive our first visitors , a Newcastle Utd . X1 , in a friendly game to open the ground our OWN GROUND- after 18 years hard work by John , David and a whole team of committee and hard workers . And now it's hoped that success will be achieved in the future to repay the efforts that have been put in to have our own SOUTH SHIELDS Football Ground .

League managed by Vince Pearson who has a lot of experience in local football and the Under - 16 team which has progressed with the club from Under - 14 level and managed by Paul Edmond for his 4th season with the Club .

To be able to buy the Filtrona Ground , financial backing had to be found and in addition to the Chairman himself , he persuaded his sister , Florence Mantell to associate herself with the Club , and without her backing , it would not have been possible to go ahead with the project . Florence is in business in Surrey and visits her home town periodically , and knowing how much John is involved with the football club , fell under his spell and eventually agreed to be his partner in backing the Club financially and so allowing the Filtrona deal to go throug And now that Florence is involved , she is also becoming a " working " partner , in visiting her home town more frequent and putting a lot of time in by helping to run the Club and working " behind the counter " and generally assisting to make the club a success .
The other directors and committee are grateful that Florence wishes to be part of the Club of the future .
