PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE to a 9 to was the turning point in The 1992-93 season the history of South Shields Football Club . After many years of endeavouring to obtain a so as to advance ground of their own they eventually of football class higher own ground . They had applied secured their of ten the obtain the years , over football pitches and areas to develop , but each one had been turned down , and finally in 1990 , chairman John Rundle began enquiries as to the possibility of purchasing Filtrona Park . After being given half - promises , the project was put in abeyance for at least a year by the owners . Having had his heart set on obtaining this last John started pushing his a ground 9 chance of ended and had the year the of application before the London headquarters contacted owners . At last , after being given the promise of the ground and club , the next thing was to arrange the finances . With the assistance of backing by his sister , Florence Mantell , who the was in business in the south , and the able help of David Fall , who had been appointed as welcome followed by very club secretary , sponsors , things began to move . The been two over had dressing rooms and the previous thoroughly vandalised years and it was going to cost a fortune to put them in order . The Council , however , stepped in and assisted the club in getting everything when of the season the opening to ready for sent a representative team Newcastle Utd . oppose the Mariners at the opening of Filtrona Park . What a blessing all the work has proved . These hard working members of the club have been wonderful and could not have been done without . Our long standing committee man , Paul Honeyman , was appointed as treasurer for the 1991-92 season and has carried on doing his job this season . His sister , Janet , has continued supplying refreshments to the spectators , as well as home and visiting teams committees . Ann Fall , David's wife , has and also been a wonderful worker and has produced marvellous buffets throughout the season . work Violet Rundle , John's wife together with his two sisters , Joyce Mulvain and Florence Mantell , have both done magnificent keeping everyone supplied behind the bars , What would them ? The club has a committee member who travels from Richmond ( Yorks ) to see every home and away match and last season when the editor of the match programme was hospitalised for most Steve Leonard took over " the editorship and a really good job he has made of of the season 9 ● new with refreshments the club do without it . John Clare , a committee member this season , has worked tirelessly in social organising events and in preparing the pitch on match days , etc. etc . 9 A number of committee members have not been mentioned in these remarks , but they have not been forgotten and that they have worked heart and soul for the club during the whole of the season .
