COMMENT Our dismissal from the Durham Challenge Cup by Ryhope C.W. although very disappointing from our prestige point of view , is in a way , a blessing is disguise . To the clubs who must compete in the Competition it is a large size headache , as money is lost all the way through , even to the Final , which leaves the clubs who reach it , out of pocket as no share of the Final goes to them . It cost the Mariners something like £ 400 to reach the Final in Season Season 1959-60 . It would be much better for clubs like South Shields who have a big wage bill to be allowed to withdraw from the Competition and make a donation to the Durham F.A. as a compensation . It is the hope of South Shields A.F.C. and their supporters that the hoped for reorganisation of the Football Leagues will open the door to Fourth Division Football for the club . Three Fourth Divisions may now be welcomed by the League sides as most are struggling to survive and it could be a means to cut down expenditure on long journeys and so allow clubs to use their money on better players and accommodation . We look to the League Annual Meeting in May , where we hope League status will come to South Sheilds running a League side in the Fourth Division as it is constituted at present , will I feel prove too big a burden for most of the clubs in , also putting greater responsibility on the Supporters ' Clubs whom they depend on .
