Dave Moor Y Dderwen Fach Heol Llan Coity Bridgend CF35 6BU . Dear Dave , 6 Windsor Drive Cleadon Sunderland SR6 7SY 0191 537 2633 bobandlindwray@hotmail.co.uk February 12th 2014 . You will recall an exchange of correspondence between us of a year ago , in connection with stripes and colours once used by South Shields ( Adelaide ) Football Club in the early years of the 1900's , wherein I was pleased as far as I was able to assist your illustrations etc. These from my own research , having had a close interest in my home town club's history and career life long . I came across the enclosed yesterday by chance and decided to contact you . This is dated 2010 December 12th , by a chap called Keith Ellis . I wish to be forwarded an e : mail or hard mail ( I of the complete photograph for which this part is taken , in order to try and confirm if it is as he states to be South Shields , which I hope it is . This I shall attempt to do by cross referencing with other photographs I have of this period , and if familiar faces re - appear it will be a positive identification . The colours are suggestive of red and white , which as you know are also nearby Sunderland AFC , although claret ands sky blue is also a possible combination . Perhaps you may please be able to contact Keith on my behalf and kindly ask him to contact me , and with a copy of the complete photograph IF he actually has it , for which I would be greatly obliged to both of you . The early history of the club is not fully documented , because of the absence of records due to numerous factors affecting survival of such artefacts , with twice moving out of town to Gateshead and documentation etc removed in the process and subsequently becoming lost , destroyed or now in the hands of private collectors etc. So the degree of difficulty in such matters can be most readily accepted . However , one must try one's best in such circumstances for the sake and cause of club history .... I look forward to hearing from you or Keith with great interest , and thank you in anticipation . Yours sincerely , Robert F Wray ( South Shields FC committee , excuse plain stationary on the occasion . ) |
