OCR However , there remains one intriguing question . It is recorded that from 1920 the club had actually owned the Horsley Hill Stadium , and that remained the case until June 1930 when it is then reported that a north country company interested in dog racing was involved in negotiations with the directors of the late South Shields AFC for the letting or sale of Horsley Hill stadium . So based on this factual information why was capital not raised when it urgently needed before 1930 by either its sale , with the club becoming a tenant thereafter or the ground being re - mortgaged ? Or by any other financial arrangement to stave off the danger of impending insolvency and so prevent the loss of the football club to the town ? At a distance in time now of 87 years since that calamitous loss , why did the club directors retain ownership of the club after 1930 and reform Gateshead AFC while still owning Horsley Hill Stadium and South Shields AFC ' gone to the dogs ' ... literally ?
