In front of a tremendous crowd of over 3,000 , Shields raced into a two - goal lead in side the first nine minutes as Tom Broadbent and Robert Briggs found the net .
Warrington - who went into the game on a 22 - match unbeaten run- pulled one back 11 minutes before half time but were second - best as the Mariners underlined why they will end the season top of the Northern Premier League standings .
Shields displayed the kind of confidence you would ex pect from a side crowned
champions five days earlier , beginning the match at a fre netic pace .
They could have scored inside 90 seconds when Jordy Mongoy robbed goal keeper Tony Thompson of possession on the left touch line , but his attempt lacked the conviction required to beat the back - tracking de fenders .
Blair Adams saw a shot blocked but the Mariners did find the breakthrough they had been threatening on five minutes .
Conor Newton floated in a delivery from the right and Broadbent rose toweringly to head into the top corner as he
