10 Shields Gazette , Monday , September 23 , 1974 Leaders Mariners make it £ 100 A MATCH AND £ 200 WIN BONUS FOR ENGLAND MEN DON REVIE wants players totally dedicated to England . At his get - together in Manchester yesterday , the new England team manager told 79 of the country's top footballers just what he expected from them , and also hinted that they will be paid considerably more up to £ 6,000 for success in the world's top competitions . six wins in a row SOUTH SHIELDS Mariners have now completed a quarter of this season's Northern Alliance programme - and they are emerging as genuine cham pionship favourites . They recorded their sixth successive win on Saturday in beating Bedlington 3-1 away , and maintained their four point lead at the top of the table . But they still have a long way to go , and second placed Morpeth Town do have a game in hand ... and Morpeth the only side to beat Shields this season . On Saturday Morpeth were 1-0 home win ners over champions Marine Park and Percy Main Amateurs were held 2-2 at home by Seaham RS . Alnwick , who are away to Shields in the Alliance Challenge Cup on October 19 , won 3-2 away over Workington Reserves on Satur day and now have eight points out of ten . If they won their games in hand they would be level on points with Shields , so Shields can expect tough rivalry for the championship . TOUGH RIVALRY On Saturday Shields were always the stronger side , their powerful running and smooth team play hardly giving the home side a chance to make a game of it . Jimmy Robson , playing against one of his former clubs , and Billy Graham gave Shields a 2-0 half - time lead and although Bedlington pulled a goal back , Billy Hair added a third for Shields who are away to Stockton this coming Saturday . South Shields Mariners are an enterprising club all - round , and tomorrow night they hold their third social evening at the Armstrong Hall . It is another sell - out , and the guests in clude Newcastle United director Stan Sey mour , the Northern Alliance president and his son Stan Jnr . , the Alliance Chairman , as well as guests from Alliance clubs and civic dignitaries .
