Taken to Gateshead
WHILE preparing for work the other morning I was surprised to hear that old familiar voice on the radio , the chairman of Gateshead United , saying he was sick of other clubs poaching his staff .
Does he forget that not very long ago he and his men took not only two teams of players , but also a fund raising scheme , a manager , a trainer and a few other things to Gateshead , and what did they leave

Shields deservedly equalised in the 75th minute when Robson pushed home a high cross from the right , but in the last minute Robson missed a chance to give Shields both points .

LEN SMITH , the man converted from goalkeeper to goaltaker in his South Shields Boys ' Club days and who has maintained a never - ending flow of goals ever since , on Saturday scored the 800th goal of his and it was a career - match - winner , too .

And he might yet celebrate this latest milestone by helping Boldon CW to this season's Wearside League championship . Boldon are at the top of the table for the first time in 20 years - and now lead the table by four points with the title racé entering the final straight .
Boldon have only twice won the Wearside League title , in 1953 and 1955 , and on the second occasion they created a league record by winning the championship with only 17 players signed
on .
On Saturday Boldon fought back after being one goal down at the interval to gain two more valuable points in their home game against Annfield Plain .
CARMICHAEL SCORES The visitors were quickly off the mark and scored through Templey after five minutes . Boldon piled on the pressure and Smith went close in the 30th minute with a free - kick from 20 yards that almost broke the bar . The second half saw the home side in command and it was no surprise when Wally Carmichael having
