Len Smith . one of the greatest non - League goal mach ines in the history of soccer , pic tured here on the occasion of his bene fit match at Simonside Hall in his final game in the South Shields shirt in which he scored 333 goals in 306 games in eight seasons ** And he might yet celebrate this latest milestone by helping Boldon CW to this season's Wearside League championship . Boldon are at the top of the table for the first time in 20 years - and now lead the table by four points with the title racé entering the final straight . Boldon have only twice won the Wearside League title , in 1953 and 1955 , and on the second occasion they created a league record by winning the championship with only 17 players signed on . On Saturday Boldon fought back after being one goal down at the interval to gain two more valuable points in their home game against Annfield Plain . CARMICHAEL SCORES The visitors were quickly off the mark and scored through Templey after five minutes .
