10 Shields Gazette , Saturday , April 5 , 1975 Minor League HORDEN AND STEELS TO QUIT LEAGUE THERE will be two vacancies in the Wearside League next season following the resignations of Horden C.W. and Steels S.C. It has been known for some time that Horden intended to apply for admission to the Rothmans Northern League , which has operated all season with an odd number of clubs fol lowing the resignation of Stanley United . Steels are only in their third season with the Wearside League and have proved a very successful outfit . After winning the League Challenge Cup last season they have never been out of the top four in the league table all this season . The ground on which they play is a factory pitch and this will not be available to them next season . Plans have already been set in motion which should ensure that this strong Steels team will be playing together again next season . Only one application for admission to the league next season has been received so far . That comes from Ryhope CA who made an unsuccessful application at last year's annual general meeting . Since then they have had another successful season in the Houghton and District League . Boldon CW were well beaten in the final of the Monkwearmouth Charity Cup competition on Good Friday by Blue Star , but the showed no signs of a hang over when they entertained Ryhope the following day . ● Two more points with a 6-0 victory , sent them soaring still further away from their nearest challengers at the top of the league table , and another two at Roker put them still further ahead . FOR DOUBLE STILL ON BOLDON CW marched into the semi - final of the Wearside League Cup with a convincing 3-0 victory over a young Roker side on Saturday and so kept alive their league cham pionship and cup double bid . They attacked from the start and in the 15th . minute took a deserved lead when Len Smith ( above ) cut in from the left and hit a low drive into the far corner of the net . Roker and fought back Wilson was unlucky when his shot on the turn hit the bar with the ' keeper beaten . The second half followed the same pattern with the home forwards giving the visitors defence a pounding , and in the 60th . minute the home side increased their lead . Wally Carmichael laid on a great pass for Smith to make no mistake from close in . With ten minutes to go , An derson picked up a loose ball in mid field , played a one two with Carmichael and finished off with a great volley from 20 yards giving the ' keeper chance . no It was Eric Johnstone who completed the Mariners ' goal century in the seventh minute and Shields went on to a 6-0 win over Alston at Windy Jack Clark Mem orial Park . Shields ' points lead is now a realistic situation for they have played the same number of games as Morpeth who were without a game on Saturday . If third top Marine Park win their games in hand they will be level on points with Morpeth , which means Shields need four points from their last four games all at home to make certain of the championship . Shields avenged their earlier 5-3 away failure against Alston with devastating 6-0 reply on Saturday . a After Johnstone had scored No. 100 , Jimmy Robson headed home the second four minutes later and on the half - hour Kenny Parker had the stranded Alston keeper well beaten with a fine lob , but full back Griffiths cleared the centain goal off the line . as NO CHANGE However , the visitors were given no chance in the second halif Jim McFarlane headed in another the 55th minute and Robson followed up with a fine goal ten minutes later , his 30th Alliance goal this son to take him back to the top of the Alliance scorer's table . The fifth goal came in the 80th minute through Ray Young , and in the dying seconds of the game the same player unleashed tremendous angled shot easily evading the keepers hands to make the score 6-0 . a P W D L F A Pts SS Mariners 28 22 4 2 105 28 48 5 Morpeth T. 28 19 4 87 40 43 Marine Pk . 26 17 5 4 55 17 39 Alnwick T. 30 12 9 9 Belford 31 11 8 12 7 6 2 13 Percy Main 24 11 Seaham RS 28 13 Wallington . 26 12 W'k'ton Res 27 9 10 8 Alston 4 10 26 13 1 12 9 Wallsend A 28 Bede Coll 25 9 N'cle Univ . 21 Bedl CW 5 11 8 3 10 26 8 2 16 6 17 Throck CW 27 Greenwells . 28 4 4 20 25 5 17 Stockton ... 443 65 53 33 81 73 30 59 42 29 47 34 28 47 44 28 51 49 28 58 65 27 6 13 44 56 24 30 41 23 29 34 19 39 69 18 48 83 14 35 98 12 30 85 11 MINOR SOCCER SOUTH TYNE SENIOR LEAGUE AB Electronics 3 , Victoria 2 ; Baker Perkins 1 , Northumbrian Marine 6 ; Tyne Tees Royals 1 , Corporation Club 2 .
