74 SOCCER RECEPTION Councillor Murtagh Diamond , the Mayor of South Tyne side , has launched a new soccer competition in the Borough . It is the South Tyneside Charities Cup in aid of the Mayoress's Charities Fund , played for by the best two teams in the Borough . This year's game was betwten South Shields Mariners , winners of the Northern Alliance League , and Boldon , champions of the Wearside League , at Cleadon Recreation Ground . The winners , Boldon - by 2 goals to nil - were presented with the trophy , which will be played for every year in a champion of champion's challenge match .
