He has always been deeply involved with the game and he possesses beautifully - kept scrap books containing cuttings and

a photographs dealing largely with South Shields , and he
e also meticulously keeps his own record books covering appearances and goal scorers .
He was a disappointed man in 1930 when the original Shields club moved to Gateshead , but he and the town e rejoiced in 1936 when a new club was formed with the e extensive assistance of the Shields Gazette . History repeated S itself last year when South Shields FC deserted the town in preference for Gateshead , but unlike the six - year gap in the thirties , this time a new club - South Shields Mariners - was formed within a matter of months , and a place was found in the Northern Alliance .
