OCR EIGHT VICTORIES IN A ROW N
LEAGUE AND CUP matches all told , South Shields have now established a new club record , eight consecutive victories , the most recent addition to this run being Saturday's 4-2 win over Morpeth Town . These two points now mean that South Shields are four points clear at the top of the Northern Alliance and that their goal tally has now reached the 30 mark , in only nine games .
Following last week's cup absence , Kenny Parker made a welcome return to the side while midfield player and captain Billy Graham's indifferent form . over the last couple of games reduced him to Suggett . substitute , Alan taking his place . The increasing Shields number of supporters coming to home games at the Jack Clark Memorial Park nearly saw the Mariners take an early sixth minute lead , when Parker , caught on the wrong foot , could only push his shot against the post from eight yards .

Steve Hunter , however , made no mistake in the 15th . minute . Suggett chipped into the path of Parker down the left flank ,
Parker made ground into the Morpeth penalty area before crossing to the far post where Hunter , totally unmarked , knocked the close ball home from range .
Morpeth ' keeper Wilson received fairly lengthy treatment , following a clash with Parker in a 50-50 race for the ball , which may have weakened him for a few minutes .

STAN THE SPY
HAS BEEN
OUT AGAIN
By BILL BAWDEN
SOUTH SHIELDS , barred from the Durham Challenge Cup because their ground does not conform to requirements , still have three trophies to go for -the Northern Alliance title and League Challenge Cup and the FA Vase . And it is the Vase tournament which takes them out to meet Wearside League opposition Wingate tomorrow . It is obviously a match that Shields have set their hearts on winning .
On the yardstick that the top teams in the Alliance are better than those in the lower regions of the Wearside League , Shields must be in with a fine
chance for they currently lead the table by four clear points whereas Wingate are fourth bottom of their lot with only three wins from 13 games and they have conceded 44 goals while scoring 19 .
And Shields also have a " secret weapon " in stand - by
goalkeeper Stan Craig who last week ran the rule over the opposition and his report has been well studied

" I'll go over it with the team just before the match tomorrow , " said Bobby today ,
Stan Craig certainly got his homework right on two other teams Shields have played this season . He watched both Carlisle City and Marine Park and on his reported pattern of their play , Shields went out accordingly and beat the opposition 2-0 and 3-0 respectively .
Shields , of course , have set up a club record by winning eight games in a row . " Mind you , said Bobby Elwell , " I don't think many of the lads realised that until they read it in the Gazette . "
