g beat Gretna 3-1 away , so Shields will make the trip to Alnwick for the second time this season . On October 4 , goals by Ray Young , Jimmy Robson and Kenny Parker gave the Mariners a 3-2 win at Alnwick and their sixth successive Alliance victory . Shields , whose support is growing steadily , are expecting one of their biggest gates ever on Saturday and they are confident they can beat Wingate . On Saturday the result was 1-1 after extra time , but Shields should have won handsomely . Extra - time will again be played this weekend if necessary .
The Shields club have received many requests from supporters who would like to photograph the magnificent Northern Alliance championship trophy club won last season . Club chairman Martin Ford said today :

Mariners plan to build stand at Jack
Clark '
A DEPUTATION of councillors is to meet officials of South Shields Football Club to explore further the club's application to erect a stand at the Jack Clark Memorial Park , writes Dick Kirkup .
This was the outcome of yesterday's meeting of the Committee for Cultural and Leisure Activities when the club's application to provide covered accommodation for their supporters was considered , An application for planning permission has also been submitted to the Council .
The committee examined a plan for the stand , a tubular steel structure 48ft . long , ten feet deep and nine feet high of sheet aluminium which , the club suggests , could be erected at the side of the pitch at present covered by overgrown shrubbery beside the high privet hedge on the East side of the ground .
It was pointed out that while the stand had been designed as a permanent structure , it could nevertheless be dismantled and the site restored without difficulty . The Football Club stated in their application that they were prepared to give the following undertakings :
A. The stand to be erected and maintained at the club's
YYC
expense .
B. The use of the stand by others at the Council's discretion . C. The stand to be constructed a nd painted in accordance with the conditions of planning permission if granted . D. The structure to be made , as far as is reasonably practicable , vandal proof .
E. In the event of the stand being dismantled , the site to be restored at the club's expense .

Commenting the application , South Tyneside Director of Cultural and Leisure Activities Mr Ray Lee said : " I regard the South Shields Football Club's application as being both a method by which the basic facilities at Jack Clark Memorial Park can be enhanced as well as a laudible attempt by the club to provide for its spectators at its own expense , and I would recommend that , subject to planning permission and to any other conditions which the Solicitor to the Council may wish to impose , the necessary permission be granted . "
All aboard for Alnwick !
round of the FA Vase a week to morrow .
SOUTH SHIELDS , who attracted a gate of more than 400 for their FA Vase replay with Wingate last week end , are establishing a growing fol lowing and this week there have been many inquiries from support ers asking if the club is running a coach to Alnwick for the second

Manager Bobby Elwell said : " The more supporters we take with us the better . If we received enough inquiries for two coaches I am sure we could run a second coach . "

Boldon on cup duty
BOLDON CW , reigning Wearside League champions and current joint leaders with Blue Star , entertain Silksworth tomorrow in the first qualifying round of the Durham Challenge Cup , a competition they have never won .
They have played Silksworth once this term , winning 3-1 away in the opening Wearside League game of the season despite playing the first half hour with only ten men . Hedley , who did not play last Saturday , and Scott , who substituted in the second half due to injury , are Boldon's only doubtful starters and the side will be selected just before kick - off .

tomorrow's gate against Wallsend Athletic at the Jack Clark Memorial Park .
SOUTH SHIELDS striker and leading scorer Kenny Parker injured his back in an accident at work yesterday and is definitely out of the side to face Wallsend Athletic in to morrow's Northern Alliance game at the Jack Clark Memorial Park ( kick - off 2.30 ) .
And the gloomy signs are that he could well be sidelined for which means he would also miss the three or four weeks club's FA Vase second

Says manager Bobby Elwell : " This really is a severe blow . Kenny works as a docker and he was working at North Shields on a job that was due to be completed today . A load slipped and Kenny was right in its path . and buffetted He knocked to the ground , and to rushed immediately Preston Hospital . He received treatment and was eventually taken home with bad brusing and a badly wrenched back . "

Tomorrow Ray Young takes over Parker's role as he returns to the team after missing last week's 3-2 FA Vase replay win Wingate . Elwell also expects to have new signing Ray Moon in his defence against Wallsend . Moon , signed from Silksworth , has been recovering from a twisted

" Obviously he is out of tomorrow's game , and it could mean him missing three or four games . However , it's amazing what rest can do to an injury like this and we are all keeping our fingers crossed for an early return . "
Boys face Boro in Schools Trophy
SOUTH SHIELDS Schoolboys , boosted by a tonic win in the last round , travel to meet Middlesbrough tomorrow ( kick - off 11 am ) in the third round of the English Schools Trophy - and despite the tough task they are confident .
Gurgen
This season Kenny has played in eleven Alliance and Cup matches and has scored in ten of them . All told he has scored 14 goals in those eleven matches . He has been an ever present in the club's nine Alliance games for a total of 12 goals . scoring in every one of them
Their 6-2 second round away win over Stanley shocked a few of the critics and Middlesbrough are expecting a hard
game . Boro apparently , have a powerful back four who are giving virtually nothing away , while they have one out standing player in attack .
They beat Lambton and Hetton 2-1 in the last round , yet two goals was all their reward for spending most of the game in the opposition's goalmouth .
The Shields team will be selected from the following 17 players :
Gibbons , McCord , Forth , Watson , Reay , Green ( Boldon ) , Hamilton , Thompson , Pude ( Redwell ) , Black ( Hedworth Field ) , Cott , Scott , Carrol , Pollard , Docksford ( Brinkburn ) , Pyke ( Harton ) , Jarvis ( Mortimer ) , Tyrie ( Cleadon ) .
Patterson ; McDonald , Moon , Compton , Rutherford ; Graham ; Carr , Madden , Hunter , Robson , Young . Sub : Suggett .
Shields , the only Alliance side with an unbeaten record this season , should extend their run at the expense of Wallsend .
have strung Shields together seven successive
Alliance wins , and while they are in their customary position at the head of the table , they've got close company in Percy Main . Both have 16 points , but Shields ' haul has come from one less than nine games Main . All the evidence , despite the absence of Parker , points to a comfortable win for Shields against a Wallsend side three places from the foot of the table with just one win to cheer them from nine games . They have lost goals seven and their columns read 17-28 . However , they certainly don't lack spirit . Last week 3-0 down to they Morpeth at half time but put in a storming second hals in which they scored three times , but Morpeth edged home 5-3 . Morpeth are not the team they were , but Wallsend's display was one that suggests that they won't come to Shields like lambs for the slaughter .
