SOUTH SHIELDS Football Club on Saturday continued their staggering suc ces story when they won their way into the last 32 of the FA Vase with a 3-1 away win over Wearside League team Wallsend Town in the third round .

Five minutes into the second half , however , Wallsend struck back , A corner glanced towards goal by Montgomery was seemingly posing no threat as Patterson had it well covered , but unlucky Jimmy McDonald , Shields ' right back , could not prevent the ball from striking his leg and rebounding into his own goal .
The defeat of Wallsend Town was a team effort in the real sense , everyone playing a part in the victory . Kenny Parker seized on a chance after 14 minutes to give Shields the lead . Lyn Rutherford's free - kick slipped through goalkeeper Wilson's hands and Parker shot on the turn from eight yards , defender Nixon's attempted block failing to MINOR SOCCER

The quicker style of football employed by Wallsend failed to break down the Shields defence which remained strong until the end , and in the 79th minute the tie was settled when Jimmy Robson headed home the third goal . Steve Hunter floated a free kick to the far side of the box , Parker heading back into the middle , Billy Graham heading it further on and Jimmy Robson finally nodded it into the top corner .
