10 Shields Gazette , Monday , January 5 , 1976 Brigg Town ' spy ' sees Mariners beat Morpeth Town 4-0 IN PARKER HAT - TRICK 14th WIN IN A ROW pre SOUTH SHIELDS COMPLETED the first half of their 1975-76 Northern Alliance programme on Saturday , and they opened up a four - point gap at the top of the table with a 4-0 away win over Morpeth Town . Second top Carlisle City and fourth top Seaham Red Star were without a game on Saturday while third top Percy Main suffered a shock 4-1 defeat by mid - table Belford . Shields their now have a wonderful opportunity to retain Northern Alliance championship , having a healthy lead at the top plus the " invisible " asset of games in hand over all their challengers .
