Vanished safety ro brings angry outbu
A SOUTH TYNESIDE councillor hit out today at the " absolute mindless vandalism " of the people who tore down safety rope barriers at Trow Rocks , South Shields .
The ropes disappeared last week and have been replaced by the council . But Coun . Ron Davison is angry about the possible dangers to people on the cliff tops .
He said : " This sort of action really sickens me . There are still plenty of kids and dogs around , so it is really dangerous when the ropes disappear . This sort of
behaviour is absolu vandalism . "
The council has also been up on a crack which has ap cliff tops at Frenchman's Le 1 ft . deep and 1 ft . wide , b says that it is not dangerou
Mr Arthur Veitch , the engineer , said : " It was cau as a result of last weeker tides . It is a mining subside looking into the best way o crack . "

TITLE CHASE HOTS UP
WHILE South Shields were pushing their success saga a step further with a 3-1 win in the FA Vase to reach the last 16 stage and an away tie against Bridgnorth , there were some significant moves behind them in the Northern Alliance title chase .
Percy Main managed a 2-1 win over a Workington Reserves side sprinkled with first team players . As in all of last week's games the wind was the overall
winner , but for Percy Main this welcome win broke up a three game losing sequence .
Seaham Red Star failed to sparkle at Durham University , a 3-3 result leaving them on 26 points parity with Carlisle City ,
MINOR LEAGUE
men have their
Northern Alliance
who were on cup duty , and Marine Park , whose 6-1 win over Morpeth Town was the biggest success of the day .
Marine marksmen were Harry Bryce ( 2 ) , Alan Adams ( 2 ) and George Stoneman ( 2 ) , the latter extending his goal - a game record to nine matches . It seems Marine are clicking into gear fo an all out attack on the title , as they usually do at
S
this stage .
Wallington could well be the side to challnge Marine on this score after their 5-1 triumph at Wallsend , where Athletic have been showing better results prior to this one . Sub David Gray came on for Wallington after half - time to score twice in the Greens ' win .
Belford kept up their fine home record with a 5-0 win over ten men
Throckley .
An updated list of leading scorers in the league includes Ken Parker ( 22 ) and Jim Robson ( 13 ) , the others being Tom Henderson ( Greenwells ) on 19 , Peter Taylor ( Belford ) 16 , Denis Halliday ( Seaham R.S. ) 13 , and Stoneman George ( Marine Park ) 12. So the Mariners well represented in this respect . With outstanding fixtures against Seaham Red Star ( away ) and Carlisle City ( away ) allied to Marine Park ( at home ) , South Shields seem to have the rest of their tough games behind them , and
are
appear to have the championship sewn up . Meantime the league double is also within their grasp , if only they can win their tie at Carlisle on February 8 , to reach the semi final stage .
