A SOUTH TYNESIDE councillor hit out today at the " absolute mindless vandalism " of the people who tore down safety rope barriers at Trow Rocks , South Shields .
The ropes disappeared last week and have been replaced by the council . But Coun . Ron Davison is angry about the possible dangers to people on the cliff tops .
He said : " This sort of action really sickens me . There are still plenty of kids and dogs around , so it is really dangerous when the ropes disappear . This sort of

GATESHEAD United have cast slightly envious eyes at the gate South Shields Mariners attracted for their Cup game on Satur day ( writes TONY SMITH ) .
On a day when Gates head had a crowd of about 300 in the FA Challenge Trophy , the Mariners drew 1,500 for their FA Vase clash with Brigg Town . "
It's ironic because the Mariners are the club that was formed when the old South Shields took the con troversial decision to quit town and move to Gateshead .
the
Gateshead have had a fair share of success , they have never attracted big gates . South Shields Mariners have had nothing but suc cess , and Saturday was probably the biggest day in their short history .
They beat Brigg Town 3-1 in the Fourth Round of the F.A. Vase with goals from Ray Young ( 2 ) and Steve Hunter .
