CLUB NOTES Todays Quarter Final Challenge Vase game against South Shields F.C. from the Northern Alliance . promises to be a most competitive encounter . South Shields have a long and distinguished tradition dating back to the 1880's when they were a Second Division Football League side . Since the 1930's many changes have taken place in the Club , with the moving of grounds and changing of Leagues , and the present set - up was only formed last year . Although it was their first season in the Northern Alliance they ran out champions by six points and this season they are again leading the Division having lost only one of their last 40 League matches . To players , officials and supporters of South Shields we hope you will enjoy your visit to our Club and that you may leave . with warm memories . At the Lane the 1st Team are well behind with League fixtures , but hope that they may yet again retain the Senior League championship at the end of the season . The Reserves after winning last Saturday need only 4 points from three games to retain their Combination Title . The ' A ' Team still have a chance of promotion needing 5 wins from the remaining games . THE " LANE " WISH TO THANK BRIAN INGAMELLS BOOKMAKERS AND TEBBUTT & BROWN FOR PROVIDING THESE PROGRAMMES . And to Ansell's Breweries who so kindly assisted in the opening of our new Pavilion Bar at today's game . Thanks also to Horace Long of our Executive Committee for the installations and alterations .
