However , for the best part Saturday's visit to Newcastle University it was an uphill struggle for the Mariners who eventually came away 3-2 winners . The first half especially left a lot to be desired , while in the second 45 minutes , after falling 2-1 behind , Shields showed little enterprise .

fund ... and at the same time neither side wants to lose . There is a cup at stake and the match won't just be a glorified practice match . Last year Boldon came out on top , although I felt we could at least have got a draw out of it , and this time my lads would like to set the record straight .
Bobby Elwell and Boldon team manager Jimmy Carney have agreed that two outfield substitutes will be allowed plus a substitute goalkeeper . Carr will be out of the Shields defence following a head injury he received playing in a Sunday Cup final last weekend . He has the stitches removed tonight , but it is felt it would be too much of a risk to play him tomorrow .
So the Shields side will be the game against Bede the season College . Stan Craig will be the substitute goalkeeper , but Jimmy Compton is the only outfield substitute to be
named so far .
Jimmy Carney has doubtful starters two Scott and Wally Carmichael in Ray

is unavailable . But Jimmy hopes to be as near full strength as possible .
