NORMAN SHIELDS FOOTBALL GAZEITE SAN 22NO , 1938 Stars of the Field No. 21 : N. Raisbeck UNLIKE most of the players on the South Shields books , Norman Raisbeck cannot point to any pig clubs which he has assisted in the past . All his football has been done locally , but that does not mean that he is anything but a class defender who is well worth a billet in the South Shields dress ing room . He started with Westoe Centrul School as a pivot and appeared for South Shields Schoolboys , along with Ben Darliny and Spence . South Shields Adelaide had their eyes on him and as soon as he left school he joined their ranks ; playing regularly in their junior side . Then he decided that he would like à change , and he went to Whitburn Welfare Juniors , help ing them to win the Junior League . His next club was Readheads ' Juniors , and it was a proud moment for him when he helped them to win the Durham Junior Cup , and bring the trophy to South Shields for the first time on record . It was at Harton Colliery that he was first tried out as a full pack , and made such a sucess of the job that he was retainet in that position . So when he jecls like wearing about filling cne position when his heart is in another he has to remember that he brought it all on himself . Where could one be found ? This is where Norman Raisbeck is introduced . A former Shields player assisting Usworth Colliery in the Wearside League , Norman heard of his old club's plight and sportingly offered his services . Needless to say he is back at Horsley Hill and has settled down so quickly that one would think that he had never been away from the club . 3349859138486 Of course , Norman did not leave Usworth Colliery In the lurch . Uswortn happened to be well ahead with their fixtures and he found no difficulty in joining Shields . Always Together NO ORMAN'S younger brother , Bob , has never been far away from him in local football . Bob is a left half and when he left : Westoe Central School he joined Norman at Readhead Juniors . Then the two brothers played for Harton Colliery in the South Tyne Alliance and both joined South Shields together ! Bob did not stay as long at Horsley Hill as Norman , and on leaving , played for Whitburn Welfare , later rejoining Norman at Usworth , after the latter had left the South Shields club . Norman Raisbeck may not be able to point to any real big clubs which he has assisted in the past . All his football has been played locally , but that does not mean that he is anything but a class defender , who is well worth a peg in the South Shields dressing room . From Adelaide , he travelled to Whitburn Welfare Juniors and helped them to win the Shields Junior , League . Snapped Up STARTING with Westoe Central School , a pivot in those days , Norman played for South Shields School boys with Ben Darling and John Spence . One club , South Shields Ade laide , had been waiting patiently for him leaving school and when he did , he was shapped up and played regu larly in their junicr side .
