Shields Football Gazette ' . April 9th . 1921 . OUR WEEKLY SKETCH . E. Richardson : A Fleet Winger with Perfect Finish . ( By " Arpe . " ) fortunate enough to secure him . Richardson's injury befell him on Sept. 11th , at Horsley Hill . He was tried a far from fit and between November 27th and March 5th he had only one game with the seniors . never There's no more popular man on the hail should any other League club be was quite evident , however , that he was books of the Shields Club to - day than E. Richardson , the young left winger , whose claim to the position has once been questioned . Tall , speedy and a vigorous forward , he has youth and weight to back up his great knowledge of wing play , and has generally been regarded as one of the finest " captures " the club ever effected . signature Richardson was first heard of last season , but then he was raw , and , quite naturally , we did not hear or see a great deal of him . Those who claimed to know , however , did say that in the young man from Easington was " the goods , " and with experience and opportunity I would prove his worth . His this year came , therefore , as a matter of course , and we know the wonderful suc cess , the young winger has enjoyed this season . In saying this I have not for gotten Richardson's injury , but this . hurt has been mended , and , regrettable though the knock the player sustained was , he is now fit and well . In other words , as Robey said , " He's thumbs ! " . + E. Richardson . t Richardson can be regarded as one of our own because it was Shields who made him . Easington is not much of a stepping stone , and , while we would be very reluctant to part with him now he has come on the veritable ton , Shields With the experience Richardson has had with Shields , he can be reckoned as fortnight later , but his leg again gave out one of the best wing men playing in the and he was obviously badly crocked . His Second League That is my opinion , and next appearance in League football was that he may be retained is my most is the place from where Richardson will on November 20th , against Hull City .. Since the latter date he has shown a complete recovery of form ; in fact , in the last few games he has played better than ever . Commanding great speed , Richard son can exercise perfect control of the leather , but the finest feature of his game is his wonderful finish , which is the last word in perfection . His value as a wing man is enhanced by his variety of methods in beating an opponent , and he has also come into prominence on numer ous occasions as a marksman of no mean order . One does not expect a wing man as a rule to be a prolific goal getter , but Richardson has got more than the aver age out of his position in this respect . He has caused custodians a great deal of trouble , the most notable instance being his goals against Bristol City , at Bristol , on Easter Monday , and at Horsley Hill , against Leicester , on Saturday last . Both were the result of cleverly executed indi vidual work and accuracy in finishing efforts ... RICHARDSON , Edward Role : Outside - left 1922-1923 5 ' 9 " b . At Gallowgate though , he rarely pushed the consistent Seymour for a first team place , deputising for the legendary figure twice during season 1922-23 . After spells at Leeds Road and Hillsborough , where he also struggled to claim a regular spot , Richardson returned to his roots and played local football . On Huddersfield's staff when the Yorkshire club won championship titles in both 1923-24 and 1924-25 , Richardson was a reserve to Town's many star names of the period . Appearances : FL : 2 apps .
