RONNIE SALES
Leyton Orient F.C. TALL , fast and possessing a
deadly shot in either foot , Ronnie Sales has done much towards Orient's recent revival . He is rapidly becoming one of the finest pivots in the game and will undoubtedly be a big factor in his club's promotion bid next
season .
Born in South Shields 25 years ago , Sales started his career by playing for local schools . He appeared in the South Shields schoolboys ' winning team and later was chosen to captain the South Shields ex - schoolboys ' team . Spotted by a Newcastle United talent scout in 1940 , he signed for the Tyneside club as an amateur centre - half . Later , he turned professional . He made more than 200 first team appear ances for Newcastle during the war years and also played as a guest for Middlesbrough .
Illness cost him his place in the United side and Frank Brennan was bought to replace him . Sales requested a transfer , resulting in his moving to the Orient during the close of last season .
Penalties are his speciality . While with Newcastle he scored from the spot more than 50 times . Since he became Orient
player , he has made 23 League appearances . During his whole career he has only once missed converting a penalty .
Raicu s one of the hardest kickers of a dead ball in soccer , Sales stands 6ft . Otin . , and weighs 12st . blb . He is married and lives near the Orient Stadium .

Sales started in the same works side as another wartime player , Johnny Dixon . Taking over from Tot Smith in the pivot's role for an extended period in 1942-43 , Sales showed he could develop into a good defender , strong and positive . It was in London though that he made his breakthrough , recording 48 senior games for Leyton Orient before moving to the Victoria Ground , Hartlepool .
