SOUTH 1928 GEORGE 5 GU fetr " 1929 H.G. HAMILTON DEUS . Scerr GEORGE SCOTT 1927-29 If a table was ever to be compiled measuring the success of players careers by the number of times they finished on the winning or losing side George Scott would be near the foot of it . His second League game for South Shields was in the 8-2 defeat at Darlington in March 1927 and by the end of the following season he had played on the winning side in only 5 of his 39 games . Transferring to Newcastle United for £ 1,250 in April 1929 he found the Magpies to be struggling against relegation . Then it was Gillingham who had to apply for re - election . Still there was the odd highlight with Scott scoring once in South Shields ' 5-3 win at Southampton and twice in the 10-1 victory over Rotherham . George Scott was born in Blackhill , Co. Durham . |
