WHO'S WHO IN SHIELDS
TEAM .
Weekly Interview With
Player .
GEORGE SCOTT .
By " WANDERER . "
George Sentt , the Seasiders ' clever left winger , " is one of the fastest " movers on the team , but he has more than speed to commend him . He knows how to trap a ball quickly and he has very sound ideas as to what shoe done with it . His skilful foot craft is a feature of his play and he possesses that virtue essential to a successful wing man , namely , the judgment and ability to cut in at the right time Gone are the days when the men on the wing were regarded as merely accessories to the scoring of goals ; their job is to exploit their scoring chances as keenly asir inside colleagues , and Scott sw to do it
He tells me that he commence his football career Crawerook , his , ative place , Northern
when the club was openting in Alliance , and he was then only a youngster . After three seasons with them he transferred his services to White - le - Head and it was from that club that South Shields secured him late in the season 1926-27 .

He made his debut for the League team against Notts Forest , on April 2nd at ; Horsley Hill , and he had five outings that season . He secured a permanent place on the team last session and showed consistently good form . His partnership with Dick Parker as been of great value to the South Shis attack , and I am expecting great things this pair before the season is very nh older .
Scott was not at all despondent when I discussed with him the Seasiders ' prospects and he is confident that they will finish somewhere near the top .
" We have had bad luck , especially last week , " he said , " but if we pull together there will be nothing to worry about . A3 though we lost the last three games we had only four goals scored against us , which shows that we have a good defence ...
" But , " he added with a smile , " we didn't get any . There is no club in the section with fewer goals scored against them . "
Scott keeps himself fit during the summer devoting his energies to tennis , and as I told . him , he couldn't do better . It is one of the finest exercises a footballer can have .
