At Reading he turned in a series of solid performances and his first team run was not interrupted until he suffered a broken jaw in an FA Cup - tie against Oldham in January . Amazingly , John insisted on returning to complete that game and only missed three games before he was back in the team . Despite this bravery , John missed several more games and was released at the end of the season . Reading Record : Lge 28 , FAC 3 , Total 31 League Career Total : 402/4
