ARCHIE ROE . I penned the entry in the Lincoln City Who's Who so the d.o.b. shown can be used . I have since found a source giving his arrival at S Shields in the 1919 close season as from Sheffield Wednesday . He must have been a wartime signing by Wednesday as he doesn't appear in their pre - 1914 / 15 list .

ARCHIBALD ROE
1919
Archie Roe only played in South Shields ' first two League games but brought the house down with his last minute winner against Birmingham . Although a man of many subsequent clubs - Birmingham , Gillingham , Arsenal , Lincoln , Rotherham - that wet Monday night in South Shields must have remained a favourite memory . Born in Hull on 9 December 1893 he was a Sheffield publican at the time of his death which occurred on 17 October 1947 , whilst he was visiting his daughter in Wigan .
