SOUTH SHIELDS ENTERTAIN BURY AT THE " HILL . " ( By WANDERER . " )
Fury were the visitors to Horsley - Hil this afternoon in fulfilment of the return I augue engagement . When the teame met st Gag's Lars last week South Shields were successful by the only goal of the match , And they relied upon the same side for today's encounter , while the visitors made the changes , Amos transferring from the left ning to the right , to the exclusion of Stephen .. pen , having Ball as his partner in place of Stare , while Aitken took the right wing paal . In the corresponding game at Horsley Hill last season the Shieldsmen were defeated ne clear goals . The teams were 14
South Shields - Walker ; Ridley , Crown ; Hd Hardy , Hutchinson ; Bolam , Hether Simme , Greenwell , Brown .
Fur - Richardson , Heap , Smith , Porter , Thaw , Brooks ; Amos , Ball , Bullock , Whenee , Aitken .

The vistors opened with a brief spell Ball of attacking in which Amos and were prominent , but Woodhouse got him gave the self offside and the free kick Shieldsmen some acope . They were unable , however , to make any progress . and Bradshaw again put his forwards in ¡ Ossession , and a dangerous movement by the left wing pair WAS looking rather ominous for the Shieldsmen when Ridley dashed up in characteristic fashion and made a decisive clearance .
Cleverly supported by their half backs the South Shields forwards eventually got into their stride and a sparkling touch Bolam ne raid by left Simms wel ! lender's placed , but the South Shields shot was effectually smothered by Smith at the expense of a corner .
NARROW ESCAPE FOR BURY . The fag.kick was well placed but it Tras just beyond the reach of Hardy's tead . and Bradshaw cleared easily There was a promising movement on the Shields left wing which Brown initiated . and the Bury goal had a narrow escape when he tapped the ball across to Green well . for the inside left to put the ball across an undefended goalmouth .
Fortunately for the visitors , however .
there was no one sufficiently far up to put on the finishing touches . The game at this point was wholly in the Shieldsmen's favour , and the Bury defenders were hard ut to it to cope with the fast and leverly executed combined movements of the South Shields forwards .
A delightful centre by Bolam put the Rury defence in dificulties , and Heap was rather lucky to get the ball away when he went to Richardson's assistance .
GREENWELL SCORES .
The game was ten minutes old when Fouth Shields , amid great excitement . etained the lead through GREENWELL . Brown had made good progress on the and , seeing his Inside men well rared , he deftly swung the ball into the mouth to Simms , who headed against cross bar during an exciting tussle . ball went out to Hetherington , who a quick return , but once again it the woodwork , and then came Greenwell's chance . Taking a first time low shot , he left Richardson helpless .
The Seasiders success had the effect of bhtening up the game considerably , and in the succeeding stages of the game both se of defenders had plenty to occupy thei attention .
The Bury forwards were a fast nippy lot , a cleverly jed by Bullock , were quick to exploit all the openings . In Ridley and Crown , however , they had wary opponents , and Hardy was always a stumbling bleek to the Bury leader .
After Hird had dealt with a delightfull effort by Aitken and Woodhouse . Simms eseayed to get his forwards moving en cunter en insurmountable barrier in the visitors hefty centre - half .
