V , Johnson . of Sheffield . The weather was delightfully ane , but there would not be more than 6,000 specta tors when the teams turned out . The ground was frost - bound , but under the influence of bright sunshine there were indications that it would prove to be on the heavy side . Hutchinson was successful with the toss and the visitors faced the sun in the opening half .
