South Shields continued to play a pirited game and Bolam was nearly rough soon after the resumption , but Burnley forwards eventually took up attack and Kelly shot hard from short nge but Hardy got in the way and the all was sent back to the Burnley end . There was a spell of lively play and hen Dawson collided with Stannard in coalmouth Smith had a great chance ut he shot into the side of the net with . goal practically at his mercy .
