Hull City provided the opposition at Horsley Hill . South Shiolds , this afternoon in a return League engagement .
When the teams met at Hull last week the Seasiders were narrowly defeated by the only goal of the match , while the corres ponding tahe at Seith Striptds last season resulted in a goalless . draw .
The Shieldsmen were again without the services of Willis Walker , who is still on the sick list suffering from a severe attack of lumbago , and there were two changes in the team compared with last week . Robson deputised for Ridley , who was indisposed ; and Wilson reappeared at right half hack to the exclusion of 11ird .

THE GAME .
The weather was fine though dull , and the ground was rather heavy . A crowd of about 8,000 was present at the start .

Mareer had to deal with a long what frain Bolam , and a minute later Matthewson went off on his own , but ran the ball out of play . From a gorner well placed by the Shields right winger , Smith cleverly hooked the hall in , and Bell just managed to divert it close to the post .
