South Shields made one change in the team to oppose Crystal Palace at Hor Hill this afternoon , Bolam being reinstated at outside left to the exclusion of Brow while the visitors made several alterations in the side that was.defeated by Oldham last week .
When the teams met at South Shielis ... Beason the Londoners were defeated by clear goals . Prior to this afternoon siders had only been defeated three times on their own ground this season .

Referce - Mr E. Shutt . of Burnley . When the game started there was a crowd of about 8.000 The visiting custodian was called upon to handle within a minute of the start . Crown very smartly pulled up Hand and Morgan when the Palace left wingers were shaping dangerously , and from the back's olearance Smith sent Matthewson away on the right . The winger put the ba !! back to Smith , who tried a shot from lorg auge which Alderson casily disposed cf. The visitors then gave the Seasiders a frigh :. The ball was swung into the goalmohiy Hand , and iphardson , mistiming the sho as nearly beaten . He made a s recovery , however , and managed to push the ball around the post for a corner which w cleated .
The Palace forwards were displaying smar combination and the quickness of their movements caused the Shields defenders little anxiety . Morgan was particularly act and Crown was given some awkward s tions to cope with .
Oxberry and Bolam made some progress " and the wing man was , fouled near the corner

EARLY SUCCESS FOR SHIELDS .
He placed the free kick perfectly for HARDY to head in the first goal of the match . Thte ball struck the inside of the upright on its passage into the net . This early success had the effect of imparung increased liveliness into the play and the South Shields forwards with Oxberry working prominently did a big share of attacking .
Hetherington beating Cracknell , swang the ball out to Bolam , but he was a trifle ton strong and the winger was unable to exploit the opening ..
The Shieldamen experienced another shock when Hand smartly rounded..Crown and lobbed in a centre from which . Hoddinout headed against the crossbar with Richardson well beaten . The Shieldsmen eventually resumed the attack and both Bolam and Smith were at fault in their marksmanship . Then followed an abortive attempt by Hand and Morgan to work their way through , the inside man being smartly dispossessed by Wilson ..

' Hetherington was racing off when he was brought down in a charge , and there was no one sufficiently far up to render the neces Bary support . a good chance being thereby lost . Oxberry was a ciever schemer and he initiated several useful openings , but . on every occasion the movement collapsed at close quarters .

Crown was again called upon to meet an attack from the left , and when the ball came across to Hoddinott , the Shielda back beat him for possession .

SECOND GOAL FOR SHIELDS .
The Palace had another great chance to equalise when Hand placed accurately froni a corner , and with Richardson out of position Hoddinott headed wide .
When the game was 20 minutes cld SMITH ccntributed & second goal for the Sexsiders with a great shot . He broke through on his own , and drove in . & terrific ground shot which Alderson made a valiant attempt to stop , but there was so much power behind it that he failed to hold the ball .
