The visitors made a vigorous opslaught and Hine was working for position just outside the penalty area when he was fouled , and from the resultant kiek Walker had to fist out . The Shields back , how ever . made a smart recovery and cleared in fine style .. Wainscoat and Newton were combining effectively on the Barnsley left wing , but they were rarely permitted to get within Bhooting distance owing to the successful stopping work of Hird and Bidley . Greenwell was well placed at the other end , but he was slow in taking control and Armstrong easily dispossessed him . The visitors were adopting fast and forceful tac tics , and the Shields defenders had plenty to occupy their attention .- Clever oombined work in which Green . well , Simms and Brown participated , resulted in the South Shields leader mak . ing good progress , but after working his way over to the left and centring there was no one up to apply the finishing touches . BARNSLEY AGGRESSIVE . Fotcher initiated a dangerous movement on the Barnsley right wing , and the South Shielde defenders in meeting the attack were none too confident in their clearances . Both Hutchinson and Crown were gullty of miskioke but fortunately their mistakes were quickly rectifled . and Talker's oharge was not seriously menaced . After the Shields custodian had saved 8 half volley . from Hine , Bolam and Hether ington came away in promising style only to he met with a stubboin resistance on the part of Baines and Gittins .
