EDITORIAL
To - day finds us engaged in a quest for the Durham County Challenge Cup , a trophy which we have secured twice during the past few years . Our record since the War , however , in this competition , apart from season 1945-46 , has been unimpressive .
For the benefit of those who like to delve into the past , below is our record :
Season 1945-46 .

1st Round v Stanley United . 2nd Round . v Horden .
3rd Round , No. 4 I.T.C. ( lost 3-0 ) .
No. 4 I.T.C. went on to win the trophy . Season 1946-47 . Season 1947-48 .
1st Round v Easington C.W. ( lost ) . 1st Round v Ferryhill .
2nd Round v Consett ( lost ) after replay .
Craghead , who operate in the Durham Central League , are at present head of the League , and possess the very enviable record of only having once been defeated this Season . Whilst the standard of football in that League is not so high as the North Eastern , Cup Ties always have the tendency to level things up . It must not , therefore , be supposed that the game to - day will be a sinecure . Under - estimation of opponents is always fatal . Our displays of recent weeks have been in and out and a pronounced victory would materially restore the balance which has been lacking .
The only change from last week is Sammy Harkness for Borthwick . Sammy , who was injured in the Ashington game , has had his arm x - rayed but no fracture was revealed .
Neither side have a game on Christmas Day , but on Boxing Day , the senior eleven travels to Blackhall , whilst the Reserves are engaged at Dawdon .
New Year's Day . - North Shields at Horsley Hill - 2 p.m.
Jan. 3rd - North Shields at Appleby Park . 2 p.m.
