There were no new nominations for the directorate , and the retiring directors , Dr Shanley and Major Stanley Readhead were re - elected without opposition , while the meeting confirmed the action of the cirec tors in co - opting Mr John Gray on the Board . Mr John Grimes was re - appointed auditor . The chairman read a letter from Mr John Owen apologisine for his absence and con gratulating the directors on the satisfactory results of the past season . Norman Thompson , the South Shields inside left , has been transferred to Middles brough . Thompson , who is a native of Forest Hall , weighs 11st 2lbs . and stands 5ft . Bins . He was secured by South Shields two years ago having previously played for Backworth and Seaton Delaval and he was hot long in securing his place on the Second League team He made a appent ances last season . TUESDAY 23.6.25 PLAYERS SIGNED . New Goalkeeper for South Shields . The South Shields club has signed on several new players , for next season . These include Charles J. Pearson , goal - keeper , who has been secured froin Derby County . Pearson , who is a native of Sunderland , was with Liverpool for three seasons prior to joining Derby County . He is Stt 1ctns . , and weighe 11st 121be . can The Seasiders have also secured W. Thirlaway , an outside forward who play on either wing . He is a New Washing ton man and has seen service with West Ham , Southend and Luton , having played for the latter club last season . Alfred C. Thomas , an outside forward , of Hull City has also been signed on . He hails from Usworth : and formerly played as an ainateur for Crook . Another promising recruit is W. Smith , younger brother of Jack Smith , who signed nn for Tottenham when he was 16. He is an inside - forward .
