SEVENTH SEASON . Shields Football Club's 23 Profetitials . RIGID ECONOMY . ( By " WANDERER . " ) For twe very good reasons the personnel of the South Shields football team will not undergo any great change during the coming season . In the first place the performances of the Seasiders during the latter part of last session has fully Justified the directors ' confidence in the men who asquitted them selves 30 brilliantry during one of the most eritical periods of the elub's , history , and secondly , the financial , position of the elub has necessarily Tited theifferts of the management in the search for new plants . A policy of the strictest economy has had to be rigidly adhered to and the South Shields club will commence its serenth season in League , football with only 23 professionals on its books , which is prac tically the same position as that in which t the club was placed a year ago . The most satisfactory feature of this season's prospects is the fact that with only one exception all the men to whoiu terms were offered have been , re - etgaged . The solitary exception is Richardson , the cus todian who deepned the terms suggested to hir , and hle's an agreement is arrived at within homéit few weeks - a chance which appear at the moment to be soinewhat reinote a new goalkeeper will appear at Horsley Hill next season . THE FRESH FACES . The management has been fortunate in securing the services of C. J. Pearson , a capable custodian of Derby County who was previously with Liverpool for three sáesons and among the latest additions to the tanks of the Seasiders are : W. Thirlaway , an outside forward tho can play on either wing . He is a native of New Washington and has seen service with West Hani , Southend , and Luton . A. C. Thomas , a wing forward who has been secured from Ilull City , and formerly played as an amateur for Crook , and . Smith , younger brother of Jack Smith , the popular South Shields forward . Smith who is an inside forward - was signed on by Tottenham when he was 16 years of age . I understand that Mr J. W Tinn , the South Shields manager , is at present negoti ating for other promising players , but whether these negotiations materialise or no : the Seasiders will be in a position to field a team at least as strong as that of last season , and if they can do that there will be very little to complain about . LAST SEASON'S RECOVERY . Although Handicapped by a start and a limited choice of meu South dields fin . islied last session in the ninth peition on the Leagne chart with 41 polute to their credit , afel the brilliance of their perform . ances during the last four months of the season is clearly demonstrated by the fact that up to December 20th , 1924 , bu Scasiders had only won two natches At that time , while hovering about the bottom of the table in danger of relegation , they had only acquired 13 points in 19 games , and then came a Temarkable Eroa Christmas Day until the end of the season they played 23 natches , won 10. lost 5 , and drew & secring 27 goals against 14 registered by their opponents . recovery . .. That is a record of which any team might be proud , " remarked Mr. Thon , when I dis cussed the club's prospects with him this morning . " and as practically the same side will be available this season , the outlook is distinctly bright . " OXBERRY TO LEAD . Oxberry , the Seasiders ' chief scorer last searon . will again lead the attack , and the most notable absentee will be Norman Thompson , the thieldsmen's clever inside left , who has thrown in his lot with the Middlesbrough club All the men have . commepced , training under the supervision of George Lilycrop , and the first practice match will take place at Horsley Hill on Saturday . The first game of the season will be at Swansea on August 29th , and Shemeld Wednesday will provide the opposition at Horsley Hill on September 5th . Additional interest will be aroused this seseon in view of the alteration in the offside rule .. 5 10 ******** Name , Birthplace and Position , CJ Pearson , Sun'land , goalk pr G Robsen , Blyth , R.B.
