Born Sunderland MAIDMENT , Tom ( 1933-34 ) City League debut v Brighton ( H ) 1-2 21 : 1 : 33 . Div . 3 ( S ) . City League apps : 44-8 goals . Tom Maidment spent five years with Lincoln City from 1926 to 1931 and in that time he developed into a useful player with 127 apps - 44 goals . He joined Portsmouth but made only 3 apps for them and in 1932 he went non - League with Workington for a season before Cardiff City paid £ 410 for him , of which Portsmouth , who held Maidment's registration , got £ 200 , Workington £ 185 and Maidment the balance . Inside right After only eighteen months at Ninian Park Maidment returned to Workington where he went on to complete 125 apps - 49 goals for them .
