( Special Report by Telephone ) match at Molyneux Ground , Wolverhampton , took place this afternoon , there being an attendance of fully 25,000 spectators
The Wolves relied upon the same team which was so successful last Saturday . but Shields were less fortunate , injuries causing a re - arrangement in their for . ward line , Lillycrop appearing at centre forward and Parker taking the place of Kirkbride on the left wing . Shields won the toss and Lillycrop at on made tracks for the Wolves ' go .. but the ball was put over the bar .

From the place kick the Wanderen headway at a fast pace but Burre was robbed neatly by Maitland when he was a favourable position . Brooks given a chance but he failed to beat thes wellt who clcared comfortably .
e Wanderers kept up the pressure anl Price , Edmonds and Brocks gave an enter prising display . There wa DO mistak.g the earnest desire of the Wolves wards to break through , and Edmou is and Brooks were very prominent , but Walke ? and his co - defenders were giving very little away .

Shields next had a look in but offside spoilt a splendid opportunity .
Shields now had more of the play , and Hampson was a thorn in the side of the home defenders , and Peers was lucky to sce a hot shot go a few inches wide , fol . lowing a scrimmage from a corner . Northerners ' attack , however , did not last long , and Price and Burrell were soon the means of causing a sustained pressure on the Shields defence , and Walker was fortunate in stopping a swift ground shot from Hodnett . The Wolves continued to harrass the Shields defence . but Cresswell and Maitland provided an effective barrier .
1 Wolves Score . After 30 minutes Price out - manoeuvred Maitland for possession . and centred beautifully for EDMONDS to head past Walker , scoring the first goal for the Wolves .
Directly atferwards , Hopkins and Keenlyside put in some grand abots which caused Peers much anxiety , but the home custodian cleared smartly .
Inspired by their early success , the Wanderers came again and fairly riddled the visitors ' defence with a dazzling movement , and after 40 minutes ' play BURRELI . added their second amidst great excitement .
Shields improved after this . towards the interval Hopkins endeas oured to force play , but the home defence proved equal emergencies . secured when on the half - way line at he and Brooks distinguished themse ... with some nice interchanges .
A foul was awarded to the Wels es u or half - time , which was entrusted to Gregory , but he shot badly and bled a what appeared a splendid ehance of increasing lead . Edmonds - later slipped between Cresswell and Maitland , and delivered a first time shot which Walker ponched out splendidly .
