This photograph was featured in a May 2011 South Tyneside library leaflet of forthcoming events , and it is I was told of a Whitburn local club . However this information which is written on pencil on the reverse side of the original postcard which was loaned to the library , I think is in error . I have reasons to think that is South Shields Adelaide Athletic FC of a period possibly between 1903 - 1905. The person back row far left looks like Jack Inskip , ( when compared to his Shields ' Gazette ' 1909 photograph ) club founder and far right same row could be Joe Edmondson , a prominent local football club official in later years . The strip pattern seems identical to the earlier photo of another considered to be Adelaide , when both are examined for likeness etc. Also some players features look similar to other photos of these early years . Confirmation wanted . The significance of the persons back row far left and 4th and 5th left with an cross above their heads is for an unknown purpose , but otherwise interesting and open to conjecture . This was repaired by friend Erik Strodl July 2011 ( see sepia enlarged original copy from library ) . The significance of the centre seated person in what seemed military dress is unknown . U |
