This gem comes to us from Barry Cram , via his friend Patrick Brennan , and is an extraordinary shot of South Shields Adelaide FC in 1906 , at the conclusion of their first successful season at Horsley Hill . The two main trophies , I'm told , are the James Knott Cup , and the Hunt Shield , awarded to the champions of the Tyneside League and the South Shields and District League respectively . Adelaide won the James Knott Cup again in 1907 , along with the Ingham Infirmary Cup , and then moved up to the Northern Alliance for the 1907-1908 season , finishing a very creditable third . ei Always a highly ambitious club , they then joined the North Eastern League in 1908-09 and finished runners - up to Newcastle United Reserves . At the end of the 1909-1910 season they dropped Friday , June 8 , 2007 21 the Adelaide and became known as South Shields . FC . Says Patrick : " Unfortunately , the only people I can identify with any confidence are the two seated gentlemen wearing bowler hats at the extreme left of the second row .
