KING Members of the Football Association Northern Premier League , Wearside League " THE MARINERS To - day's Game Welcome to Alfreton Town Re - formed in 1959 after an absence from football of 32 years , Alfreton Town played for two seasons in the Central Alliance , before joining their current League ( the Midland Counties Football League ) in 1961. Their best season to date came in 1969/70 when they won the League championship , dropping only 5 points en route , won the Derbyshire Senior Cup and reached the 1st Round Proper of the F.A. Cup , losing to the then 3rd Division side Barrow after three replays and a mammoth 420 minutes play . They won the Derbyshire Senior Cup again last season , having previously won it in 1960/61 season and have held the Midlands League Cup for the past two seasons . This season promises to be even better than in 1969/70 , as prior to Wednesday's F.A. Cup 1st Round Proper replay with Blyth Spartans , Alfreton had gone 17 games without defeat and dropped only 3 points in the Midlands League , having lost only once in all games since March .
