Application for Football League 1966 (Image 7)

Image details

OCR just say this : In my humble opinion South Shields Football . Club is READY NOW for League status .
We have a lot to offer but we need the opportunity . Another opportunity could be next season if you did us the honour of voting for us in London .
-
ALF MCMICHAEL , Team Manager .
FROM THE SUPPORTERS ' CLUB
The South Shields Football Club Supporters ' Club is delighted to have this opportunity to support the applica tion for membership of the Football League . We are solidly behind the Football Club in all they do , this being a product of the close harmony that exists in the football set - up in South Shields .
Our membership is strong and increasing all the time , and we occupy new premises designed and built at a cost of nearly £ 30,000 . We offer luxurious accommodation to visiting supporters who are treated as our guests .
The Football Club itself has a fine reputation for hospitality , as many North Regional League clubs , as well as some League clubs , would readily bear out , and the whole picture is one that generates the highest standards of respect , integrity and sportsmanship . These are the qualities one expects from a League club ; they are the qualities we demand in our own club .
Our town has a population of more than 110,000 all long ing for the day when South Shields gains a place in the Football League . Home attendances are , as is pointed out elsewhere in this brochure , in many instances far bigger than those at League clubs and , after thorough research on the subject , we are convinced that our attendances would almost double were we League club .
Twice in the last four weeks of the recently - ended season we had crowds of more than 10,000 backed up by other attendances in the 5-6-7,000 region .

Everyone in the Football Club's organisation is ready for League status . We feel South Shields deserves a place in the League . We sincerely hope you do , too , for our destiny itself lies in your hands .
W. ROGERS
( Chairman , South Shields A.F.C. Supporters ' Club . )
