-2 Our club now possesses a sound Board of Directors ever alive to the needs of modern football and in this respect we feel we have succeeded . We will claim that no non - League club in this country commands the spectator support that we receive . In addition , we are . backed by a thriving Supporters Club which now occupies luxurious and finely - appointed headquarters which cost £ 30,000 . Our home support is by no means static , for our supporters travel in vast numbers for away games . A few weeks ago we travelled to play a 580 mile round trip - yet we took with us many supporters . Hereford .. It is our aim at all costs to support any sporting interest on the North East Coast , and also reassure clubs in the Midlands and further South that indeed football is very much alive in our area . We have formed the opinion , particularly through watching television , that the North of England goes no further than Manchester , and it is this impression we must obviate at all cost . We have the goodwill of our great neighbours Newcastle United and Sunderland , and , with conurbation imminent in the Tyne Valley , there are more than enough potential supporters for all of us . Particularly , we We would attract support that at present goes NOWHERE ! We use the word potential advisedly , for we have conducted on three occasions a " Gallup " Poll of our own which , taken at face value , indicates that our attendances would increase by sixty per cent were we honoured with League statues . have not of course accepted these figures without further examination but diffidently suggest with factual evidence that the definite increase would be in the region of forty per cent . This allows for any reasonable doubt in our survey and we would expect this to then increase seasonally . Our Tast four home games have been watched by more than 23,000 spectators and this at the end of a long season when support can be expected , in some cases to wane . This season we have met League Clubs with considerable success . While in the North Regional League we meet week by week the reserve sides of First , Second , Third and Fourth Division clubs and our current fourth - top league placing indicates our measure of success . Our Manager , Mr. Alf McMichael is a man thoroughly aware of the demands of League football , a Newcastle United player for thirteen years during which time he was capped thirty - nine times by Northern Ireland and captained his country on twenty occasions . So high is Mr. McMichael held by the Directors , that we took the opportunity to renew his contract for a further three years a few weeks ago . Cont / ... |
